AISTS MAS IN SPORT ADMINISTRATION CREATES SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEURS

September 25, 2016, Lausanne, Switzerland

The AISTS MAS in Sport Administration program is producing a new breed of entrepreneurs! In fact the last two cohorts – the classes of 2014 and 2015 – have produced graduates keen to become leading entrepreneurs in the sport industry.

Allan Chamorro, a 36-year-old from Nicaragua, was the first student from Central America to study the AISTS sports administration program in 2014. After his course ended he moved to the US and started putting together an independent sports agency, Studio 23. He has since landed a major account with a group of football club owners in Nicaragua, which sees him delivering on a year-long project to develop a new, independent professional football league in Nicaragua.

Allan explains, “This league isn’t only about a game. It has a lot of bigger themes. When you fix the league, you have a better national team. If the national team does well, there’s impact on the country branding. We want every city that has a first division team to benefit from the league directly. The league will be designed to function as an economic and social engine for most of these communities so they can all benefit from it. It’s more than just designing a game, it’s about creating a whole new eco system.”

Allan is aware that there are massive risks with his new role as an entrepreneur, but for him the challenge, reward and excitement of the work make it all worth it. He says, “I have the chance to make things right. It’s not about the money, it’s about the rewarding experience of being a direct agent of change. I am creating new standards for generations to come in the whole sporting ecosystem that will also impact the Managua 2017 Central American Games, which my team and I are also in charge of. The legacy for these is huge.”

The AISTS Sports Administration program includes a week-long entrepreneurship module – and this helped Allan and the other AISTS entrepreneurs make a lot of connections. The EPFL Entrepreneurship Days – a series of workshops for entrepreneurs – were also invaluable to Allan.

The AISTS Master of Advanced Studies in Sport Administration and Technology (MAS in Sport Administration) is a 15 months international postgraduate program in sports management, endorsed by the International Olympic Committee, based in Lausanne, Switzerland. These three AISTS alumni have all taken a chance as entrepreneurs and are enjoying every single minute of the experience!
